El acuerdo busca elevar la seguridad, calidad y sostenibilidad del transporte turístico en la República Dominicana.
Punta Cana, República Dominicana, 29 de julio de 2026. El ministro de Turismo, David Collado, y la Federación Internacional de los Trabajadores del Transporte (ITF) firmaron un memorándum de cooperación para fortalecer la movilidad turística sostenible, reconociendo el papel esencial que desempeñan los transportistas en la experiencia de millones de visitantes que llegan al país.
Una alianza para fortalecer el transporte turístico
El acuerdo, suscrito junto al secretario general de la ITF, Stephen Cotton, durante la reunión del Comité Nacional de Coordinación del Caribe (NCC), promoverá el intercambio de conocimientos, experiencias y buenas prácticas internacionales para fortalecer el transporte terrestre como un componente fundamental del turismo dominicano.
La iniciativa contempla acciones de cooperación técnica orientadas a mejorar los estándares de seguridad, calidad, innovación y sostenibilidad de los servicios de transporte vinculados a la actividad turística.
Reconocimiento al trabajo de los transportistas
Durante la firma del acuerdo, el ministro David Collado destacó que los conductores, operadores de transporte y trabajadores del sector representan la primera bienvenida y, en muchos casos, el último recuerdo que los turistas se llevan de la República Dominicana.
“Cuando fortalecemos a nuestros transportistas, fortalecemos toda la experiencia turística de República Dominicana. Ellos son la primera bienvenida y muchas veces el último recuerdo que se lleva un visitante de nuestro país”, expresó Collado.
El funcionario afirmó que esta alianza permitirá continuar profesionalizando el sector mediante la incorporación de mejores prácticas internacionales y el fortalecimiento de las capacidades de quienes trabajan diariamente al servicio del turismo.
Reconocimiento de la ITF
Como parte de la ceremonia, la Federación Internacional de los Trabajadores del Transporte entregó un reconocimiento al ministro David Collado por su liderazgo en la promoción de un turismo sostenible y por fortalecer la cooperación entre los sectores del turismo y el transporte.
Al agradecer la distinción, el ministro dedicó el reconocimiento a todos los dominicanos y, especialmente, a los miles de trabajadores del transporte que contribuyen diariamente al posicionamiento del país como uno de los principales destinos turísticos del mundo.
Con esta alianza, el Ministerio de Turismo reafirma su compromiso de impulsar un sistema de movilidad más seguro, eficiente y sostenible, fortaleciendo la calidad de la experiencia turística y el desarrollo del sector en la República Dominicana.

Tourism Minister David Collado and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen sustainable tourist mobility, recognizing the essential role transport workers play in the experience of millions of visitors who travel throughout the country.
A Partnership to Strengthen Tourism Transportation
The agreement, signed with ITF General Secretary Stephen Cotton during the Caribbean National Coordination Committee (NCC) meeting, will promote the exchange of knowledge, experience, and international best practices to strengthen ground transportation as a key component of Dominican tourism.
The initiative includes technical cooperation aimed at improving safety, service quality, innovation, and sustainability standards across tourism-related transportation services.
Recognizing the Role of Transport Workers
During the signing ceremony, Minister David Collado emphasized that drivers, transportation operators, and tourism transport professionals provide visitors with both their first welcome and, often, their final impression of the Dominican Republic.
“When we strengthen our transport workers, we strengthen the entire tourism experience of the Dominican Republic. They are the first welcome and often the last memory visitors take home,” said Collado.
The minister noted that the agreement represents an opportunity to further professionalize the sector by adopting international best practices and recognizing the valuable contribution of thousands of transport workers to the country’s tourism success.
Recognition from the ITF
As part of the ceremony, the International Transport Workers’ Federation presented Minister David Collado with an award recognizing his leadership in promoting sustainable tourism and fostering stronger cooperation between the tourism and transportation sectors.
Accepting the recognition, Collado dedicated the honor to all Dominicans, especially the thousands of transport workers whose professionalism and hospitality help position the Dominican Republic among the world’s leading tourism destinations.
